MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team lost 8-25, 11-25, 18-25 to Leander High in the District 25-4A opener Sept. 13.

After a disappointing start, Marble Falls rebounded in the third set and had a 10-8 lead. However, the Lady Lions responded and, eventually. swept the match in three sets.

Earlier, the Marble Falls freshmen won 21-25, 25-22 and 25-16.

“We are very proud of the strides that the ninth-graders are making and the efforts they are putting forth to become the best team possible,” Marble Falls head coach Julie Downs said.

The Marble Falls junior varsity lost 18-25, 25-23, 22-25 in a contest filled with long rallies and close points. Downs commended Kelsey Tackitt, who returned to the court after an injury.

“Kelsey Tackitt did a great job of leading her team,” she said. “She played a very tough game with an ace, kill and saved lost ball to keep the Mustangs in the run for the win.”

A lost ball is one that is way out of play and usually unrecoverable, Downs said.

ON DEFENSE: (varsity) blocks – Lewis 2; digs – Long 6
