Wayne Louis Ikonen, 69, died peacefully April 3, 2013 from complications of cancer.

A longtime resident of Lampasas County, he spent many years in the in oil industry in Texas and Montana. More recently, he was a property manager in Susanville, Calif., before moving back to Tow in 2011. He also worked in the construction trades and was an extraordinary and intuitive vehicle mechanic.

“He could work on anything with wheels and pistons,” his brother, Stan Ikonen said.

His avocation was long-range shooting and gunsmithing. He attended every gunsmithing class offered at Lassen County Community College in Susanville and was successful in the repair, restoration and building of weapons. He also was an accomplished angler, never missing an opportunity to cast a lure in Lake Buchanan or Hat Creek in the Cascade Mountains of Northern California.

He was a 1962 graduate of Lampasas High School.

Wayne is preceded in death by his father, Edward Wayne Ikonen, and his stepfather, Jack Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Gay Ikonen of Tow; children, Becky Underwood of Houston, Beverly Miller of Cushing, Jackie Ikonen of Reno, Nev., Patti Reed of Lampasas, Misty Ikonen of Chicago and Louis Ikonen of Cedar Park; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Billie Johnson of Lampasas; sister, Nancy Faught of Lampasas; brother, Stanley Ikonen of Bluemont, Va.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.

At his request, no services will be held.
