The Rev. Richard Pelkey to be ordained to Sacred Order of Priests
The Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, the Rev. C. Andrew Doyle, will officiate.
Pelkey, who joined Trinity in July, grew up in Corona, Calif., and earned a degree in music education from the University of Nevada.
He worked five years with the Boy Scouts in California as a field executive responsible for recruitment, fundraising, program development and volunteer training. He also served as a camp director.
Pelkey visited various organizations, schools and churches to generate support for Scouting.
While living in Chico, Calif., with his wife Helen, the couple attended St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, where Pelkey sang in the choir, served as an acolyte and headed up the youth and college/young adult ministries. In addition to these responsibilities he was hired as the youth and college minister for Faith Lutheran Church, also in Chico.
The call to become a priest led the Pelkeys to Cedar Park, where Richard Pelkey began his formal training at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. He graduated in May with a master’s degree of divinity. While attending seminary, he spent two years doing field education work for Christ Episcopal Church in Cedar Park. Pelkey was ordained as a transitional deacon June 14 at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Chico, Calif.
Richard and Helen have two sons, Robert, 5, and Lucas, 2.
