Fundraiser on tap Saturday for Sunrise Beach volunteer firefighters

SUNRISE BEACH — For the 28th year in a row, the Sunrise Beach VFD Ladies’ Auxiliary will hold their annual flea market fundraiser during Labor Day weekend to benefit the Volunteer Fire Department.
One item for sale this year is a cookbook filled with residents’ favorite recipes.
“Our Fire Department is completely volunteer, and they do two big fundraisers a year,” said Amy Reid Lescoe, the publicity chairwoman.
The other event is a barbecue during the Memorial Day weekend.
The flea market will be located at the Sunrise Beach Civic Center, 124 Sunrise Drive, and the Sunrise Beach Fire House 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.
“People come from miles around to browse and purchase a huge selection of furniture (indoor and outdoor), toys, sports and fishing equipment, books, collectibles and a variety of treasures that have been donated for this cause,” Lescoe said.
Another offering this year will be newly printed cookbooks for $15.
They include recipes from generations of Sunrise Beach residents; including a local favorite “Posh Squash.”
