HCCT Guild readies theater for new season
When audiences arrive at the Hill Country Community Theatre this fall season, they’ll find a newly finished parking lot courtesy of the Hill Country Community Theatre Guild.
Guild members Bill Goforth and John Indrieri spent about a week repairing potholes in the theater’s parking lot after other options fell through.
“Bill Goforth decided to take action and formed a team of volunteers to repair the potholes that made parking difficult,” said Guild member Pam Spiller. “He recruited fellow Horseshoe Bay resident and good friend John Indrieri to help man the shovels and enlisted the support of Heart of Texas Equipment Rental in Cottonwood Shores to loan an asphalt compactor.”
The guild paid for the asphalt, which was delivered by Stephenson Roofing of Round Mountain, Spiller said.
HCCT Executive Director Jim McDermott said the project was a bit unusual for the guild, which was formed earlier this summer.
“It’s not the usual project for the guild, but Goforth’s enthusiasm was contagious,” McDermott said. “The time to do repairs is now before the season begins.”
The HCCT 2008-2009 season kicks off Sept. 18 with the gala opening of “Leading Ladies,” a comedy from the writer of local favorite “Lend Me A Tenor.”
Spiller said the guild’s primary mission is to publicize the theater, which has been operating in the Highland Lakes for 24 years. The playhouse is at 4003 FM 2147.
“We’re just trying to get the word out and hopefully bring more people out here,” she said. “We’d love to have more sold-out performances.”
The guild holds several promotional events each year, including Circle of Stars, opening-night galas and an annual awards night.
Spiller said new members are welcome at the guild, adding they need only pay a $10 fee to join.
And, now that the potholes are a thing of the past, Spiller said the guild is eyeing another project.
“We’re looking to put up a new sign that will be visible on both sides of the road,” she said. “Right now, you could drive by the theater and not realize it’s there.”
