AKA to perform at Uptown Marble Theater
MARBLE FALLS — AKA, the acronym for “also known as,” is an Austin-based musical show group performing “Big Band to Be-Bop” at The Uptown Marble Theater Friday and Saturday.
Performances are at 8 p.m. at the theater, 218 Main St.
The 8-year-old group is bringing the show to the Uptown following a well-received performance in February at Way Off Broadway in Cedar Park.
AKA routinely performs this and other shows at various venues in Austin and the surrounding area.
AKA includes Cathy Rose, the group’s founder; Sue Sewell, Mark King and Jim Baker. Each musician brings his or her unique talents to the show as the group sings and dances.
“Big Band to Be-Bop” will take listeners back to the music, dance and fashion of the “Big Band Era” with memories of a world at war during a gathering at the Stage Door Canteen.
The audience will then experience a more carefree time in America — a trip back to the 1950s with doo-wop, sock hops, soda shops, the twist and gyrating hips.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door and available online at www.uptownmarble.com, at the R-Bar & Grill, 904 Third St.; and by calling the theater at (830) 693-9996.
Limited reserved table seating is available for only $20 by calling the theater. Special pricing is available for rows of six.
