Lady Dawgs’ defense leads to victory
“We did a lot of things really well, especially on the defensive side of the game to put the game out of reach by halftime,” said coach Doug Messer, who saw his team improve its record to 4-2. “This was a total team effort.”
Several Lady Dawgs players offered major contributions that included nine players scoring with three in double figures. Hillary Foster and Leah Cotton led the scoring blitz with 15 points apiece. Foster also had rebounds and a steal. Cotton added two assists and came up with three heists.
Anastasia Bingham had 13 points, two assists and three steals.
Also a major part of the Burnet attack were Shelby Lastly, with nine points, three rebounds and two assists, and Kaylee Adams with six points, seven boards and two blocked shots.
Ashley Doucet was tough on the glass with five rebounds and had an assist and a steal.
Peyton Revelle scored four points, two assists and a pair of steals as did MaKenzie Reynolds with three rebounds and an assist. Alex Castruita added two points and picked the Lampasas pocket twice, while teammate Bobby Jackson ripped off one steal.
Burnet blew past the Lady Ducks with a 23-5 opening quarter blast and continued their demolition with a 24-7 second-quarter detonation. The Lady Dawgs slowed a bit offensively in the second half, but duplicated their defense from the first half by holding Taylor to only 12 points.
As a team, the Lady Dawgs shot only 44 percent from the field but did connect on 29 two-point baskets and had one from three-point range.
