Congressman accepting applications for attendance at U.S. military academies

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Mike Conaway is asking local high school seniors interested in attending a U.S. military academy to apply for nominations through his office.

The application period for students who will enter college next year ends Oct. 27.

To be considered, applicants must be a U.S. citizen residing in the 11th Congressional District of Texas (which includes Burnet and Llano counties); be at least 17 years old, but not yet 23, on July 2, 2009; be unmarried; and cannot be pregnant or have a legal obligation to support children or other dependents.

Selection is based on SAT and ACT test scores, class rank, grade point averages, extracurricular activities, leadership potential and motivation.

Applicants should contact Conaway’s academy liaison JoAnne Powell at (325) 659-4010.

Applications are available through Conaway’s San Angelo Regional Office at 33 East Twohig, Suite 307, San Angelo, TX 76903.
