Merry Market Day adds new twist to local Marble Falls holiday activities

MARBLE FALLS — Retail businesses are invited to take part in a new addition to the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce’s holiday activities, officials said.

On Saturday, the Chamber hosts a Merry Market Day in the municipal parking lot on the corner of Third and Main streets. The first 50 retailers to submit their applications receive a 10-foot-by-10-foot space to sell their wares from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The festivities continue later that evening, officials said, with the Historic Main Street Association hosting a silent benefit auction and a concert featuring Johnny Gimble at the Uptown Marble Theater, 218 Main St. In addition, the Walkway of Lights, the Chamber’s annual lighting display along the shores of Lake Marble Falls, is open from 6 -10 p.m. at 307 Buena Vista Drive.

In 2007, the same Saturday in December saw Walkway’s biggest single-day crowd of the year, with nearly 3,600 people attending, including more than 2,600 from outside the Highland Lakes area.

The Merry Market Day is a free event, and is part of the “Shop Marble Falls” program, a promotion encouraging support for local retailers.
