Author to sign copies of WW II nurses book

MARBLE FALLS — The author of a book about World War II nurses that is now the basis of an upcoming dramatization at the Hill Country Community Theatre will be on hand to autograph copies of her work.

Kathi Jackson, author of “They Call Them Angels: American Military Nurses of World War II,” will be at Serendipity Books noon-2 p.m. Dec. 6.

The bookstore is at 1103 RR 1431 West.

According to reviewers, Jackson’s book chronicles the firsthand accounts of some of the thousands of Army and Navy nurses who served both stateside and overseas during World War II. Although they could have made more money as civilians, they chose to leave the security of home to care for the young men who went off to war, reviewers said.

They were not saints but vibrant women whose performance changed both military and civilian nursing, according to Jackson’s account.

A dramatization of “They Called Them Angels” will be performed at the theater, FM 2147 in Cottonwood Shores. Books will be available for purchase at all performances; however, debit/credit cards will not be accepted, sponsors said.

Performances will be be 7:30 p.m. Friday; 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6; and a matinee at 2:15 p.m. Dec. 7, the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
