Marble Falls council looks at EDC budget change

MARBLE FALLS — A former councilwoman is on her way to a permanent position with the Marble Falls Economic Development Corp. after a public hearing at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Olivia Cribbs was hired by the EDC in October to serve as special projects coordinator, a job for which she’ll receive more than $73,000 in salary and benefits.

The EDC Nov. 5 unanimously gave the thumbs-up to a budget amendment allowing Cribbs’ hire, but as part of its charter with the city, the City Council must also approve the change.

“This is the first public hearing for this amendment,” Chief Financial Officer Margie Cardenas said. “We will bring it back for approval on Dec. 8.”

According to Carenas, Cribbs will receive $50,000 base salary, along with about $16,000 in benefits including a $6,300 vehicle allowance.

The public will have a second chance to discuss the issue at a final public hearing Dec. 8.

In other action, the council heard from concerned residents of the LaVentana subdivision.

The council Nov. 10 tabled a motion that would have zoned a portion of the subdivision area as residential-3, which allows for high-density apartments.

Developer Steve Hurst said many La Ventana residents were concerned the R-3 zoning could allow for overcrowding in the high-end neighborhood.

“We have informed them that we have no intention to add apartments there,” Hurst said.

Hurst asked the council to draft a new zoning ordinance that would allow for certain types of condominiums while restricting high-density developments.

“We respectfully ask you to expedite moving forward on this ordinance,” Hurst said. “The sooner I can get this property zoned, the faster I can move forward with the project.”

The next council meeting is set for 6:30 Dec. 8 in council chambers, 800 Third St.
