Ansley to leave New Mexico
Ansley, who competed in both exhibition games this year, leaves the program because of personal reasons.
“Kelsey has decided to go to a smaller school, and we respect that decision,” head coach Don Flanagan said. “We appreciate the time that she was here and wish her the best in the future.”
According to Chris Deal, assistant director of media relations, Ansley is hoping to play at a Division I-A university closer to Marble Falls.
“She has to be released by New Mexico, which is already done,” he said.
She will finish the fall semester at New Mexico and then transfer during the Christmas break, he said.
If she transfers to another Division I program, she will have to sit out a year, Deal said.
The Marble Falls native averaged 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds per game as a freshman. Ansley appeared in 24 games last season.
Deal said Ansley played an integral role in helping the Lady Lobos beat San Diego State University last season, 63-54, in San Diego last year, even though she recorded only one rebound in the game.
