MARBLE FALLS — The National Restaurant Association named Blue Bonnet Cafe the winner of its Small Business Restaurant Neighbor Award for Texas.  The café was chosen for its community service and involvement in the biannual Marble Falls Area EMS Fish Fry.

Each year the NRA accepts nominations for its Restaurant Neighbor Award honoring restaurants for outstanding community service.

Three winners are chosen in each state based on business size.  The national winners are chosen from the state winners.

“The Blue Bonnet is thrilled to receive this award,” said John Kemper, who owns the restaurant with wife Belinda.  “Giving back to the community, one that is so good to us, is something Belinda and I feel strongly about.  Marble Falls Area EMS makes this region a better place to live through its services, and we are pleased to contribute to its success.”

The biannual Marble Falls Area EMS Fish Fry started in 1989 and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in March 2009. Blue Bonnet Café donates all food and labor for the event. Money raised at the fundraiser pays for all EMS annual training and other resources.

Established in 1929, Blue Bonnet Café is considered one of Texas’ classic cafes. The Kempers purchased the restaurant in 1981. For more, call (830) 693-2344 or visit www.bluebonnetcafe.net. The restaurant is located at 211 U.S. 281.
