MARBLE FALLS — University  of  Texas  football legends Johnny “Lam” Jones and Johnny “Ham” Jones will be guests of honor at the CASA for the Highland Lakes Area “Speak Up for Kids” 5K Run & Fun Day at the Park Nov. 22.

The event is at Johnson Park, 230 Ave. 3 South.

Runners and outdoor enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the run and enjoy a day of live music at the Outdoor Pavilion 9 a.m.–3 p.m.  Ant Hill Society (Home of Texas Soul) kicks off the entertainment from 9:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. and Marble  Falls’ own Daniel Conti with Drawing Back — classic rock and blues —  plays from noon-3 p.m.

Refreshment vendors will be in the park.

Visitors will get a chance to speak with former Olympic gold medalist, UT football hero, former New York Jets wide-receiver, and official 5K Ribbon Cutter Johnny “Lam” Jones and former UT football great, Johnny “Ham” Jones, as they support efforts to “Speak Up for Kids.”

Court Appointed Special Advocates, a nonprofit organization, aids children who were removed from their homes by the state due to abuse and neglect. Nationally, every 10 seconds, a child is reported abused or neglected.

CASA provides direct services and court representation to these children, and saves taxpayers millions due to volunteer support, organizers said. Last year, CASA volunteers donated more than 6,000 hours and drove more than 26,000 miles, saving local taxpayers $454,953, based on local pay scales and federal mileage rates.

It is estimated that CASA will save counties more in 2008, based on current figures, officials said.

CASA for the Highland Lakes Area has served residents of Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano and San Saba counties for 15 years, aiding children in need.
