Lady Dawgs advance to playoffs
Burnet volleyball coach Bethany Grissom couldn’t get the thank-you cards out fast enough to Wimberley and the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers. Thanks to a Liberty Hill 0-3 loss at Wimberley that night and a successful 8-3 district run, the Lady Dawgs qualified for the playoffs.
The Wimberley win took some pressure off Burnet from the regular season finale at home against the Lady Panthers slated for 7 p.m. today. A Wimberley loss would have put a major spin on the rematch with Liberty Hill. Grissom, however, said there was much excitement surrounding the final home game and a great deal to be gained from the match.
“We are looking forward to the match against Liberty Hill,” Grissom said. “A win would be great for the girls and would definitely give us some momentum heading into the playoffs.”
Besides avenging the first round loss to their Williamson County rival, much more is at stake. The outcome could affect who the Lady Dawgs challenge in the playoffs Nov. 3-4.
“We are not sure who we will be playing in the playoffs,” Grissom said. “If we beat Liberty Hill, we will be tied for second with Fredericksburg. If this happens, we will have to sit down and discuss what we are going to do to decide that tie.”
In appreciation, parents will be honored before the match and seniors will be saluted for their contributions to the program. Seniors include Laila El-Far, Emily Vaughan, Vandi Vann, Manda Martin, Mandi Lindley and Yudith Ortiz.
