MARBLE FALLS — Mustard Seed Ministries is hoping residents will take advantage of a chance to get to know the 6-year-old church at its new location.

The nondenominational church earlier this year opened its new worship center at 118 Starhorn Drive, off U.S. 281 north of Marble Falls.

“We just wanted to do an open house on Nov. 8 to let the community know what we’re about,” said Diane Cornelison, wife of the Rev. Dennis Cornelison.

Diane Cornelison said Mustard Seed is a casual “coffee house” church, complete with tables, coffee and donuts for worshipers at the regular 10:30 a.m. Sunday service.

“It’s set up like a café,” she said. “It’s a very casual setting with contemporary music. We’re trying to reach church-seekers.”

The church boasts a congregation of about 40 people of all ages, though Cornelison said the group includes many young worshipers.

“We just had a new youth pastor, Abraham Sweet, start,” she said. “They have a Bible study every Sunday evening, and they hold their church service at the same time as the adult service.”

Cornelison said the church keeps community service square in its sights, with regular 12-step program meetings, biblical counseling and other projects.

“One of our goals is to construct cabins for homeless people in Marble Falls,” she said. “Our homeschool group is going to be having a play in December at the Hill Country Community Theatre, and we’re going to give the proceeds from that play to start the building fund.”

Once the project gets started, the church hopes to build single-family residences to live in while they get back on their feet, Cornelison said.

“As it progresses, we’ll probably be seeking help on the project from other churches and groups,” she said.

Cornelison said the open house gets under way 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the church.

“We’ll provide lunch for everyone, and it’s a great chance to get to know the church.”
