Kingsland going German this Saturday, Sunday
The festival organizers hope to raise money for a new air-conditioning system at the community center, 3451 Rose Hill Drive.
“We have no other means of funding at the center, other than renting it out,” center Treasurer Carol Smith said. “But we do have regular expenses such as maintenance and electric bills. We need to start replacing our air conditioner soon, and we need to start raising some money to do this.”
Smith said the event will feature authentic German music, bratwurst, sauerkraut and vendors.
“We actually had the sausage donated,” she said. “It’s free admission, so the people can come in and see what’s going on and hopefully buy some food.”
Beer also will be available for a donation, Smith said.
The community center was built about 20 years ago by volunteers and through fundraisers, and Smith said the governing board still regularly raises money to keep the facility’s doors open.
“A lot of people drive by it and don’t even know the things we have going on inside,” she said.
The Oktoberfest gets under way 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, with food served 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. both days.
