Virginia Lea Wootton

Virginia Lea Wootton, 86, of Burnet died Sept. 29, 2010. She was born May 4, 1924, to Charles and Crystal Reedy at Tonk Valley in Young County.
She graduated from high school in Eliasville and attended college at North Texas State for a year before marrying Bruce E. Wootton Nov. 15, 1942.
She had three sons. The eldest, Bruce Jr., was born with cerebral palsy, but thanks to her love and nurturing care he lived 21 years, in spite of predictions by doctors.
After his death, she began her career as a bookkeeper working for a department store and then an insurance agency in Abilene.
When her husband was transferred to Monahans, she went to work for the Texas Youth Council as a bookkeeper in Pyote.
She worked for the council until her retirement in 1986.
The couple moved to Llano in 1986. In order to stay busy, she worked with the Llano Chamber of Commerce. She was also active with the Womens Culture Club in Llano, The First Baptist Church of Llano and the Young at Heart Group.
She has lived out her remaining years with her daughter-in-law and son in Burnet while enduring Alzheimer’s disease.
Survivors include sister Lila Maples of Graham; Joe and Edie Wootton of Burnet; Edwin and Fran Wootton of Monahans; grandchildren Craig of Monahans, Michelle Rogers of Burnet, Mark of Kingwood and Michael of St. Louis; great-grandchildren Leslie, Dylan, Maxwell, Madison, Alexandrea and Micah.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006.
A graveside service is 1 p.m. Oct. 2 at Murray Cemetery in Murray.
