The Highland Lakes area received over an inch of rainfall on average across Burnet and Llano counties in the last week, and more is expected this coming weekend. 

Between March 30 and Monday, April 6, Lower Colorado River Authority rain gauges across both counties measured between .79 inches and 2.63 inches of rain. 

The showers brought an end to the burn ban in Burnet County, which was lifted on Thursday, April 2.

Llano County issued a temporary lift to its burn ban that lasted Thursday, April 2, through Sunday, April 5. The county then issued another temporary burn ban lift at noon on Monday, April 6, that will last until noon on Wednesday, April 8.

The current Keetch-Byram Drought Index ratings for Burnet and Llano counties are relatively low. The 0-800 scale measures soil moisture and is often used by Texas counties to determine whether or not a burn ban is necessary. 

  • Burnet County- scale rating range by location 117-350, average rating 350
  • Llano County- scale rating range by location 111-424, average rating 299

Forecast

The current National Weather forecast for the Highland Lakes area shows mild temperatures throughout the coming week, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the 50s.

There are moderate chances of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday across Burnet County.
