Residents of Burnet County may feel rumbles and hear loud booms throughout the week as Fort Hood conducts B-52 Stratofortress munitions testing. The routine training will run daily from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, March 9 through Thursday, March 12.

Fort Hood officials stated in a press release issued on Friday, March 6 that residents around the base may hear increased aircraft noise during the scheduled training times from the B-52.

The aircraft, from the Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, will be dropping 500-pound munitions as part of the training exercise which may result in small ground quakes.

Officials reassured residents that the testing is part of regular operations, and should not affect public safety.

“Fort Hood regularly conducts training exercises to maintain readiness while working closely with local communities to minimize disruptions,” reads an excerpt from the media release issued on Friday.

Previous testing using the same B-52 and 500-pound munitions in mid-December 2025 was felt by some residents near Bertram, which is approximately 32 miles from Fort Hood.

Residents are encouraged to report any undetonated ordinance or suspicious objects to 911 or the Fort Hood Directorate of Emergency Services at 254-287-4001.
