Ed Hashbarger is Burnet County’s new full-time emergency management coordinator. He had served in the interim position for about a month before being offered the permanent position following the departure of former coordinator Derek Marchio in June

Burnet County Judge Bryan Wilson officially offered the job to Hashbarger on July 30 after he and Precinct 2 Commissioner Jim Luther interviewed multiple candidates for the job. Hashbarger had been appointed by the full Commissioners Court as the county’s interim emergency management coordinator on June 9.

“(Hashbarger) is serving really well and we have high remarks on serving on these major fires in the area,” Wilson said during an Aug. 13 Commissioners Court meeting.

The former coordinator, Marchio, left his position in June to take a position with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Hashbarger had been working under Marchio for months prior to his resignation, undergoing essential training and assisting with recovery efforts following the devastating flash flood events of July 2025.

As the emergency management coordinator, Hashbarger will serve as the department head of the Burnet County Office of Emergency Management, which oversees the management and coordination of countywide response to disasters and emergencies like flooding, fires, tornados, and more.
