Highland Lakes Elementary School prekindergarten teacher Jessica Aguilar was recently recognized with a Pedernales Electric Cooperative Spotlight Award for her outstanding work at the Granite Shoals campus. She was one of 10 educators in the co-op’s coverage area to receive the 2025 honor.

“One of the neatest things we get to do as a cooperative is to come together and support our teachers who are helping to improve the future of our communities,” said Kevyn Packer, PEC Community Outreach specialist, in a May 19 media release. “We couldn’t be more excited to surprise them and show how grateful we are for their hard work and dedication.”

PEC members had until April 25 to submit nominations for teachers who they believe go above and beyond in their communities. The winners each received a personalized basket of treats, school supplies, educational games, and other materials to help them in the classroom.

The Spotlight Award is relatively new, having been established in the fall of 2024. The first Highland Lakes teachers to be recognized were Elizabeth Coyle of Spicewood Elementary School and Valerie Ullmann of Burnet Middle School.
