Alfred Gerome Nelson

Alfred Gerome Nelson, 81, of Liberty Hill died July 18, 2010. He was born May 24, 1929, in Burnet County to Boyd Lee Nelson and Frances Raydell (Floyd) Nelson.
He was a cotton picker, cedar chopper, roughneck, dam and bridge builder, carpenter, building contractor and barber. During his life he lived as far south as Bloomington and as far north as Kodiak, Alaska.
He was an active reader, poet, storyteller and songwriter. He was a self-educated man who was true to his word; his actions came straight from the heart.
He was admired and loved by all who knew him and there was no one else like him in the world. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include sons Lynn Nelson of Leander, Bill Nelson and wife Zona of Georgetown, and John Nelson and wife Shelly of San Angelo; daughters Deborah Galliher and husband Bernard of Liberty Hill and Fran Sessler and husband Jeff of Leander; sisters Cleon Sullivan, Raynell Atkison, Joyce McGinty and Carolyn Tyler; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vida; brothers Dale, Doyle and Von Dean; and sisters Jean Warwick and Patty McDaniel.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. July 21 at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 E. Polk St. in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
A service is 10 a.m. July 22 at the funeral home with the reverends Max Copeland and Kenneth Wommack officiating.
Masonic burial rites and interment will take place at the Liberty Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Heath Nelson, Robert Nelson, Clifford Nelson, Quinton McDaniel, Tyson Jamison, Gordon Faubion, Rick Cook and Jason Travis.
