Walk among the pioneers at Fort Croghan’s Living History Day on Saturday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteer re-enactors will be dressed in period clothes and demonstrating life in 1850s Burnet County. Admission is free.
The Fort Croghan Museum and Grounds in Burnet stages this peek at the past on the second Saturday of October each year.
Watch woodcarving, blacksmithing, dutch-oven cooking, rope making, corn shelling, spinning, and weaving demonstrations. Adults and children can join in the fun with special activities, including old-fashioned games and a visit from the Buffalo soldiers of Fort Concho, a Black regiment formed in 1866.
The Sons of the Republic of Texas will be on hand to periodically shoot off their working historical cannon. A gunfight opens the festivities at 10 a.m.
You can purchase hamburgers, cookies, cakes, pies, and water — cash only — with proceeds benefiting the museum.
The museum’s last event of 2023 is Christmas at Old Fort Croghan on Dec. 9.
Fort Croghan Museum and Grounds is located at 703 Buchanan (Texas 29) in Burnet. It is open for regular visits from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from April through October.
