Highland Lakes Halloween, fall festivities

Highland Lakes communities are getting into the spirit of Halloween and fall throughout October with festivals, pumpkin picking, haunted houses, live entertainment, and more.
Check out the events below and mark them on your spooky fun calendar. If your organization, group, church, or business is holding a community-wide Halloween happening, let everyone know in the comments section.

“It’s the Great Pumpkin Decorating contest, Herman Brown!”
Herman Brown Free Library, 100 E. Washington St. in Burnet
Decorate your pumpkins and enter them for a chance to win the library’s sixth annual pumpkin-carving contest. Judging takes place Oct. 23-28.

Harvest of Fall Fun
Sweet Berry Farm, 1801 FM 1980 in Marble Falls
8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays
Closed Wednesdays
The annual fall festival at Sweet Berry Farm is in full swing. Hayrides, mazes, pumpkin patches, and more await visitors. Entry and parking are free; you pay per activity and by weight of pumpkin.

“Little Shop of Horrors”
Hill Country Community Theatre, 4003 FM 2147 West in Cottonwood Shores
LAST WEEKEND! 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday
Watch this horrifically charming musical about timid florist Seymour Krelborn, who befriends an alien plant that promises to fulfill his wildest dreams as long as he keeps it well-fed with flesh and blood! Seymour must juggle his crush on his co-worker, Audrey, and his responsibility to the rapidly growing plant, which might have designs on world domination.

Spider Octoberfest
Spider Mountain Bike Park, 200 Greenwood Hills Trail in Burnet
8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Spider Mountain Bike Park’s Halloween party features music, food, games, costume contests, scenic chairlift rides, and, of course, mountain biking. It’s also a great spot to watch the annular eclipse on Saturday ($3 eclipse glasses on site).
Ghostbusters Day
Ms. Lollipop’s Parties, Fun & Gifts, 208 Main St. in Marble Falls
Noon to 4 p.m.
The popular Marble Falls candy shop is inviting the community to come dressed in their best spooky or Ghostbusters-themed costume for an afternoon of movie fun. Take free photos with the iconic ECTO-1 Ghostmobile. A free screening of “Ghostbusters” is at 7:30 p.m. in nearby Harmony Park.

Llano County Community Center Haunted House
2249 RR 152 West in Llano
7:30-10 p.m.
This annual haunted house has scares for all ages. Admission is $10 for 48 inches and above and $5 for 47 inches and below. Parking is free.

Fall Festival
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 105 RR 1431 East in Marble Falls
1-6 p.m.
St. John’s celebrates the season with food, carnival games, music, and auctions.

Texas Marigold Festival
Throughout Blanco at various locations and times
Blanco hosts an ode to the marigold, a flower integral to the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos. Vendors, food, drinks, workshops, displays, and music will fill the streets all week.

Boo-tiques and Brews

The historic town square transforms into a Halloween hangout as businesses remain open beyond regular hours for an evening of shopping, drinks, candy, costumes, and trick-or-treating.

Halloween Magic Show and Costume Party

Illusionist Rodney Rash entertains during this free, all-ages event.

Fall Festival and carnival
Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J South in Marble Falls
5-11 p.m. Friday, 1-11 p.m. Saturday, and 1-10 p.m. Sunday
Presented by Thunder Rock, the weekend includes carnival rides, vendors, live music, Halloween costume contests, and more. Carnival wristbands are $25.
OCT. 28
Llano River Pumpkin Float
Robinson City Park, 123 Robinson Park Drive in Llano
5-9 p.m.
The Llano River will be alight with floating and bobbing jack-o-lanterns. Bring your own carved pumpkin or just enjoy the “glow” as well as candy, costumes, music, and family fun.
Creatures of the Night
Inks Lake State Park, 3630 Park Road 4 West in Burnet
6-7:15 p.m.
Scope out nocturnal creatures on an educational, Halloween-themed walk around Central Park at Inks Lake State Park. Bring a flashlight and candy bucket for treats. Costumes welcome but not required.
Marble Falls Area VFD Haunted House
606 Avenue U in Marble Falls
6-9 p.m.
The volunteer fire department opens its annual haunted house to all ages. Free admission, though donations are welcome.

Fall-O-Ween trunk-or-treat
First Methodist Church, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive in Marble Falls
4-6 p.m.
The church’s parking lot will be open for games, trick-or-treating, bounce houses, food, and fun.

Halloween in the Park
Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J South in Marble Falls
5-8 p.m.
Shop vendors or get out your trick-or-treat buckets for candy at Johnson Park during this Marble Falls Parks and Recreation Department event.
