Marion Robert Alexander Sr., 86, died Oct. 31, 2012. He was born on Dec. 13, 1925, in Lampasas to Cleborne and Era Del. He attended Pleasanton High School and the University of Arkansas, where he lettered in football.

He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and married Margaret Lee Shipman. Together they had five boys in seven years: Marion “Bob” Jr., Daniel, Theodore, Timothy and Lester Paul.

His wife nicknamed him “Bob,” and he went by M.R. “Bob” Alexander thereafter. After the war, he was a door-to-door Bible salesman while attending Abilene Christian College as a ministerial student.

He then transitioned to selling roofing and remodeling door to door for 25 years.

For a time, he was a minister at West Avenue Church of Christ in San Antonio. Later, he went to work for Sterling Bakery in San Antonio, where he was encouraged to become an accountant and complete his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

He twice married Ella Mae Boyer and was lifetime friends with Gertrude “Trudy” Carmine.

He retired to Rocky Top on Lake Buchanan in 1988. He devoted his retired life to researching Bible history and ministering to others through a newsletter. He researched and wrote Alexander Family History in a series of newsletters as well.

He lived at the Herman and Sons Retirement Home for six years, then moved to his final residence in Burnet.

In June 2012, he attended his 76th consecutive Alexander Family Reunion, where he was honored for being the oldest Alexander in attendance.

Survivors include his four sons; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was Nov. 3 with his son Dan Alexander officiating at the Alexander Family Cemetery in Lampasas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret; son Bob Jr.; and friend Trudy.
