Cottonwood Shores plans to spend $224,000 in 2027 on street repairs, drainage work, water and wastewater upgrades, and park improvements.

The drainage and capital improvements program, approved in the Oct. 15 council meeting, includes the final year of a five-year effort to address major drainage and flooding issues, continue ribbon curbing along city streets, and upgrade recreational amenities.

“Drainage improvements in 2027 will address the last of the drainage and flood-related issues that have plagued the city in the past,” City Manager J.C. Hughes told DailyTrib.

Street maintenance and repairs account for $111,500, with another $17,500 allocated for drainage. The city plans to install about 2,000 feet of ribbon curbing along West Cottonwood Drive to prevent roadway edges from breaking apart and contributing to potholes, drainage problems, and costly repeat repairs.

The city added ribbon curbing along East Cottonwood Drive in 2026. The curbing can also widen roadways as part of maintenance. Other planned street work includes reconditioning and chip sealing several roads with deteriorating surfaces.

Water and wastewater improvements account for $70,000. Projects include looping water lines and adding fire hydrants in a neighborhood on the northeast side of the city to improve water pressure, fire flow, and public safety.

The city also plans to install a carbon scrubber at Lift Station No. 5 to reduce odors from discharged air, particularly in the summer.

Park upgrades include $20,000 for splash pad improvements and $5,000 for a skate park restroom. Planned splash pad additions include a rain-deck umbrella, rainwater loops, and small spray elements to supplement existing features.

The new skate park restroom completes a three-year effort to provide restrooms and water fountains at every city park.
