Marble Falls will not move forward with a proposed 250-foot artificial Christmas tree intended to break a world record during the 2026 holiday season.

The project was called off because “several key project requirements and logistical arrangements” could not be completed ahead of the season, according to a city media release.

Further discussions about a possible 2027 installation are expected after Jan. 1, but the city has not confirmed whether the project will return.

The city’s annual Walkway of Lights will proceed as planned, opening at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20.

Known as the Glory Tree, the proposed structure was planned for the end of the Lakeside Park peninsula, outside the traditional Walkway of Lights footprint. The City Council approved a licensing agreement Sept. 1 with Glory Tree, doing business as World Icon, LLC, allowing the company to use city property for the project.

At 250 feet, the tree would have surpassed the 236-foot artificial Christmas tree record set in Sri Lanka in 2016. Its height was also chosen to coincide with the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Under the proposed agreement, World Icon would have covered the tree’s design, engineering, construction, installation and removal, as well as permanent electrical infrastructure, public safety, security, operations and special events. Preliminary estimates put public safety and security costs at about $100,000. The city’s contribution would have been access to the site.

The company also planned to fund a community lighting ceremony with live entertainment and a New Year’s Eve drone show, which has also been canceled.

  1. Of course not don’t do anything for Christmas that is super special that cost money but spend lots of money on stupid stuff that is a waste of money on the city and the people don’t enjoy. Marble Falls has really gone down hill since the days when I was growing up here.
