Horseshoe Bay will celebrate its commitment to preserving dark skies with its fourth annual Stargazing Party on Thursday, Nov. 12, at Horseshoe Bay Nature Park.

The free, family-friendly event begins at 7 p.m. at 1514 Golden Nugget and celebrates the city’s designation as an International Dark Sky Community, recognizing its efforts to reduce light pollution and protect views of the night sky.

Horseshoe Bay earned the designation from the International Dark-Sky Association on Nov. 1, 2015, becoming the second city in Texas to receive the recognition.

Members of the Hill Country Astronomers, a local amateur astronomy organization, will provide telescopes for attendees to observe the night sky. No equipment or prior astronomy experience is necessary.

“This is a wonderful family-oriented event, great for kids of all ages, anyone who enjoys astronomy, science, and space regardless of equipment or experience level,” Horseshoe Bay Planning Supervisor Sandra Nash told DailyTrib. “It can even be used towards astronomy-related merit badges for local scout groups.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs and dress appropriately for the weather.
