BSW Marble Falls recognized nationally for stroke treatment

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center- Marble Falls was recently recognized as a high performing treatment facility for strokes in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report.
The Marble Falls hospital is among dozens of BSW facilities that were recognized in the annual report, which is used across the country as a “best of” guide for consumers. The nonprofit received more “Best Hospital” rankings and ratings than any other health system in Texas in 2026.
“Rankings are not the objective of our work. They are an outcome of our teams’ dedication to delivering clinical excellence and exemplary experiences,” BWS CEO Pete McCanna said in a in a media release. “Trusted, high-quality care is the foundation of our transformation as we make healthcare simpler and more empowering for our customers.”
The Marble Falls hospital has been steadily improving its ability to treat strokes since it opened in 2015. A federal grant boosted those efforts further in February of this year, with addition of a new CT scanner.
“We’re taking care of folks that are very far from healthcare, and this is just one stop, and hopefully we can take care of them here without them having to go into Austin,” BSW-Marble Falls President Tim Ols said during a press conference at the hospital on Feb. 6. “Many people drive an hour just to get to Marble Falls, let alone go to Austin.”
Matthew Gerdes, the BSW Marble Falls manager of imaging operations, explained to DailyTrib that this new machine would be used on a daily basis and help streamline treatment, especially in the cases of strokes and trauma.
“Currently, if we have someone with a stroke come in, we have to put whatever patient we have on the table off and they have to wait for their scan,” he said. “It’s really going to save time, and that is critical when you’re talking about stroke and trauma.”
