The body of a man was recovered on the evening of Sunday, July 26, in the Colorado River branch of Lake LBJ.
According to Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Captain Gene Fernandez, game wardens responded to a request from the Llano County Sheriff’s Office at around 8 p.m. on Sunday concerning a man who was discovered floating upside down in the river by a group of paddleboarders.
Two Llano County wardens and one Burnet County warden investigated the scene along with the Llano County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. On the scene, it was determined that the man was staying in a nearby home by himself, and likely drowned while out for a swim.
“It appeared that the body had been in the water for a couple of days,” Captain Fernadez told DailyTrib. “The individual likely went swimming and somehow drowned. With the temperatures being warm, the body likely fell to the bottom of the river and eventually came back up.”
Captain Fernandez added that the game wardens’ investigation did not find any nearby water vessels, nor were there any witnesses aside from the group that found the body.
“There were no boat crashes, and (the wardens) did not find any evidence that he was paddleboarding,” he said. “There were also no witnesses or reports of a missing person.”
It was noted that the Llano County CID was investigating the death. No update beyond what Fernandez provided was available at the time of this article’s publication.
Captain Fernandez also reminded residents to always let others know their whereabouts when going out alone.
“It’s always good to tell people where you’re at and what you’re doing,” he said. “Sharing your plan and what you’re doing goes a very long way.”

No Compensation You understand and agree that you will receive no compensation for the submission or use of your Submitted Content.
Indemnification You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Company, its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your breach of this Agreement or any third-party claims related to your Submitted Content.
Moral Rights and Publicity You waive any moral rights or rights of attribution in the Submitted Content to the extent permitted by law. Company may use your name, username, or likeness in connection with the Submitted Content if applicable.
Termination and Removal Company may, in its sole discretion, edit, refuse to post, or remove any Submitted Content at any time without notice. This Agreement survives any termination.
Governing Law This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts located in Burnet County, Texas.
Entire Agreement This Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties and supersedes all prior agreements. Modifications must be in writing. By submitting content, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement.
