Pedernales Electric Cooperative is hosting a free virtual camp, Camp Save-a-Watt, for elementary school students. Registration is open through May 29 for the eight-week program, which begins June 1.
The virtual camp features weekly educational videos, mini-lessons, crafts, and activities that students can complete at their own pace, covering topics such as energy conservation and electrical safety.
“These days it’s so important for kids to have quality content to explore. We’ve put together a very cohesive site with a number of resources to provide an incredible and well-rounded learning experience. Our campers can do the weekly lessons online, complete the embedded activities, watch our videos, make crafts, and attend an event to get the most out of the camp,” PEC Community Outreach Specialist Kevyn Packer told DailyTrib.
In addition to the online content, PEC will host a series of optional in-person events to complement the program. Activities include meeting a lineworker, learning about careers in linework, and trying on safety gear.
The Buda and Bertram locations will also feature an egg drop challenge, where campers can test contraptions designed to protect an egg dropped from a bucket truck. The Solar Car Derby is another popular event, giving students a hands-on opportunity to build and race solar-powered cars.
Parents can register online at myPEC.com/camp through May 29. Campers who register by May 8 will receive a free Camp Save-a-Watt T-shirt.
