Ark of Highland Lakes has been recognized with one of the state’s highest honors for volunteer service, earning a 42nd Annual Governor’s Volunteer Award for its work supporting families in crisis across the Highland Lakes area.

The nonprofit received the Community Champion Award, announced by First Lady Cecilia Abbott, honorary chair of the Governor’s Volunteer Awards, which are administered by the OneStar Foundation. The awards represent the State of Texas’ highest recognition for volunteer service, with Ark selected from nominees statewide for its leadership, community impact, and ability to mobilize churches, agencies, and volunteers.

“This award belongs to every church, every volunteer, every donor, and every neighbor who has said ‘yes’ when someone needed help,” Kevin Naumann, executive director of the Ark, said in a media release. “We are deeply grateful for this recognition, but even more grateful for the community that makes this work possible. God has done immeasurably more than we could have asked or imagined, and we are honored to be His hands and feet in the Highland Lakes.”

Founded after the 2018 Highland Lakes floods, Ark of Highland Lakes is a faith-based network of local churches that provides year-round disaster response, long-term recovery, and community support for families in crisis.
