Around 400 people filled the tables for a sold-out evening of fun to support the Highland Lakes Service League’s scholarship and grant programs. The annual Chuck Wagon Chow Down Auction and Dinner was Jan.  27 at the YMCA in Burnet.

Participants enjoyed raffles and live and silent auctions to boost the league’s mission. The night also included a barbecue dinner catered by Pok-e-Jo’s and entertainment from local band Triple Bogey, which played country music and 1970s hits.

This year’s proceeds will go toward grants for Highland Lakes nonprofit organizations, scholarships for women seeking to continue their education, the annual Special Needs Christmas Party, and monetary assistance to individuals and families in need in Burnet and Llano counties.

Scholarships are awarded in June and grants in November. Applications are available at HLSL.org. The Highland Lakes Service League also supports other needs as they arise in the community.

“The Highland Lakes Service League would like to thank everyone who attended, provided items for the activities and auctions, and sponsored or underwrote the events,” said an organization spokesperson in a media statement. “We could not accomplish our mission without the support of the community. ‘Together, We Can Do More!’”
