Edgar Rangel, 20, of Burnet was killed on Dec. 21 after a car in which he was a passenger possibly hydroplaned on RR 1431 in Kingsland and ran into an embankment. The Llano High School graduate worked at Doc’s Fish Camp and Grill in Marble Falls.

Rangel’s family is raising money for funeral expenses through a GoFundMe campaign

“We are all devastated by the sudden loss of our son Edgar Jesus Rangel and we’re not prepared for the high cost of the funeral expenses,” reads an excerpt from the fundraiser webpage. “We want to give Edgar the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes.”

The Texas Department of Public Safety released a preliminary report on the fatality.

“A red Ford Mustang occupied by the driver and three passengers was traveling north on RR 1431,” reads the report. “The Ford possibly hydroplaned on the wet roadway and traveled onto the grassy shoulder and down the embankment.  As a result of the crash, one passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Rangel’s fundraiser has been shared hundreds of times on social media, including by his employer, Doc’s Fish Camp.

“This week, we lost a beloved member of our staff,” reads a social media post from the Marble Falls restaurant. “Edgar was a very thoughtful person, always checking on the well-being of others and doing his best to put a smile on their faces.”

DailyTrib.com spoke briefly with Rangel’s friend and coworker Garrett Dorst.

“He was just such a unique person,” Dorst said. “He carried himself in a different way, and he was just such a ball of light for everyone that came into contact with him. He was a pure soul.”
