Renate “Renee” Thomas, 86, passed away Sept. 9, 2018.
A celebration of life is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Horseshoe Bay Yacht Club.
Renate was born in Bremen, Germany, on Jan. 11, 1932. In 1945, at the age of 13, as World War II was ending, American and Russian forces occupied Germany. When town elders heard the sounds of American tanks approaching, they sent Renate to the top of the church steeple to wave a white sheet of surrender.
She immigrated to the United States, to Alice, Texas, in 1953. She began her real estate career in Padre Isles in 1972. In 1978, she moved to Horseshoe Bay, where she continued to sell real estate into 2018. She served in several positions, including twice as president of the Highland Lakes Association of Realtors.
She was preceded in death by sons Thomas Thomas and Fred Thomas.
Renate is survived by sons Daniel Thomas and Ronald Thomas, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
