Doyce “Newt” Newton was accepted by the Lord into heaven on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at his home in Tow, Texas, at the age of 78. Doyce was born in Hamilton, Texas, to Clara Thaye (Hale) and Omri A. Newton.

Doyce met his wife, Wanda, while attending high school in Kress. They were married almost 56 years until Wanda’s passing in November of 2015.

Doyce resided in Tow for 23 years until his passing.

Prior to moving to Tow, Doyce and Wanda had lived in Baytown beginning in 1969. While there, Doyce worked at Brown & Root for many years as an electrician.

Doyce is survived by his sons and, while they were growing up, was actively involved in their lives and enjoyed watching their sporting activities. Later in life, he was a supportive grandfather who loved to watch his four granddaughters play sports as well.

Doyce loved Texas sports teams and spending time with his large group of very close friends at Lake Buchanan.

Doyce is survived by his three sons, Jay Newton and wife Krystin Mitchell of Dallas, Randy Newton of Deer Park, and Tom Newton and wife Janet of Houston; grandchildren, Taylor Biehl and husband Josh, Holly Newton, Reese Newton, and Parker Newton; and great-grandchildren, Mason and Tanner Biehl.

Doyce was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wanda, and brother, Forrest Lynn Newton.

Visitation is 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Putnam Funeral Home, 145 Texas Ave. in Kingsland, (325) 388-0008. A graveside service follows at 5 p.m. Aug. 18 at Tow Cemetery in Tow.
