Scott Edward Lawless passed peacefully at home on June 13, 2018 from complications of appendiceal cancer. He was born to Bobby Dean Lawless and Geraldine (Scott) Lawless on Aug. 30, 1961, in Bay City, Texas, and raised in Rosenberg. He enjoyed living in Austin for decades and, most recently, savored lake life in Lago Vista, but his family’s land on the Llano River was his heart’s home.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Scott retired in 2015 after 20-plus years with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. He loved sports, motorcycle rides, outdoors adventures, and the simple joys in life. This beautiful blend of dreamer and pragmatist was wise, quick-witted, sweet, unflappable, and deeply grateful for every day and everything he had in this world.

Scott is survived by his loving family: his wife of 24 years, Jill; his son and best fishing and mountain-biking buddy, Lucas; mother, Geraldine “Jerrie” Lawless; sisters, Karla Leslie and Lisa Craft and husband Jon; brother, David Lawless; nephews and nieces, James Leslie, Jenna Leslie, Joshua Craft and wife Ashtyn, and Kayla Craft and fiancé Drew Granger; and great-niece, Harper Claire.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Oncology, and A*Med Hospice for their expert care. Donations in Scott’s memory may be made to the National Park Foundation or Austin Pets Alive.

A celebration of Scott’s life is 10:30 a.m. June 19 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300. Email whhfuneral1@verizon.net with condolences.
