Sign of support: Burnet community can back first responders with banner program

BURNET — As John Will and other Burnet Association of Merchants members saw the tragedies involving law enforcement unfold across the country, they were reminded of the men and women in blue within their community.

“With all that’s going on around the country with police being shot, and just some of the anger directed toward them, we just wanted to do something to show our police and our other local heroes that we support them,” said Will, owner of Burnet Antique Mall on the courthouse square. “So the BAM members, we came up with ‘Support Your Local Heroes.’”

The program is simple. Interested businesses, organizations and individuals can show their support of local first responders with special signs and banners. All they have to do is stop by one of two sign shops in Burnet: JB’s Quick Ship, 600 S. Water (U.S. 281), or One More Thing Sign Shop, 1904 Texas 29.

“It’s not just the police but all of our emergency services like the fire department and EMS,” Will said. “Even the men and women of the military. We just want them to know we’re here and we’re supporting you. We appreciate what they do every day for us.”

There are two main sign designs, but the size and style are really up to the purchaser. Will said the companies can make them in just about any size, including banners.

“They’re pretty cool signs,” he added.

You do not have to be a member of the merchant association to purchase the signs. Go to shopanddineburnet.org for more information on the Burnet Association of Merchants.
