Account set up to help man who lost leg after being hit by trailer

MARBLE FALLS — Within a blink of an eye, John Bolin’s life changed. He had stepped out of his truck Aug. 10 to open a gate off a county road in Round Mountain to some property where he and fellow surveyor Shawn Moore needed to work.
As he was standing at the gate, he and Moore heard a noise from the road.
“By the time they looked up, there was no time,” said Shawn Moore’s wife, Lisa Moore. “A flatbed trailer had come off a truck and just crashed into John.”
Shawn Moore rushed to his friend’s aid, and upon seeing the damage to one of the legs, applied a tourniquet, a move that medical personnel would later say might have saved the man’s life. EMS and rescue crews were able to get to the scene and stabilize Bolin before he was transported by helicopter to University Medical Center Breckenridge in Austin.
“They had to amputate his leg,” Moore said. “The other leg was broken, but the doctors think it’s savable. But still, he and Lorie have a long fight ahead of them.”
Bolin has worked at Marble Falls Surveying and Mapping for 15 years, Lisa Moore said.
“He and my husband have worked together for the past seven years,” she said. “This has just been so devastating.”
Moore set up a GoFundMe.com account to help raise money for the Bolins. Visit www.gofundme.com/JohnBolin to donate.
“His wife is a manager for Taco Casa, and she’s had to take time off to be with him in the hospital,” Moore said. “Seton has a place she can stay near the hospital, kind of like a Ronald McDonald House, but there is still a cost. There’s just a lot of costs with this that aren’t exactly related to the medical expenses. There are a lot of day-to-day bills that they’ll need help with.”
“And they have a daughter and two stepsons,” Moore added. “We’re just trying to help them with any expenses we can. I told Lorie, ‘Go be with John and let me take care of some of this.’”
Moore and others are working on future fundraisers as well, but for now, people can donate though the GoFundMe.com account or at First State Bank Central Texas, 617 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls. The bank account is under Lisa Moore/FBO John Bolin.
“And they’re going to need a lot of prayers,” Moore added.

Let John know that there are lots of resources available to him in learning to continue a fulfilling and independent life as an amputee. I live in Marble Falls and have been an amputee for a few years now, left hemipelvectomy. I have yet to find any local amputee support or services but I can recommend my prosthetist when John is ready for this step. He and his family can also find lots of information from The Amputee Coalition of America web site and Facebook page. The FB page is great for asking questions, finding support or just a good rant.
Great resources but the fact is this accident should have never happened.
This trailer if it is double axle is in violation of Ferdera law unless the cheap farmer had a farm tag on it. Under federal law that superceeds state law a separate breaking system needed to be installed and working. Why did the hitch fail? Why did the safety chains fail and why did the breaks fail? Because we are towing with defective products
We keep warning about these accidents…go to http://www.dangeroustrailers.org
