VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Burnet, Marble Falls and Llano

BLANCO — The Burnet High School volleyball team defeated Blanco 25-23, 25-13, 25-22 on Aug. 17.

Burnet at Tex-Fest Tournament

WIMBERLEY The Burnet High School volleyball team finished second overall at the Tex-Fest Tournament on Aug. 14-15.

“I was extremely proud of the girl’s accomplishments this weekend,” Lady Dawgs head coach Salye Coles said. “We played hard and turned a lot of heads. It is a great feeling for a coach to be complimented on her team, and that happened to me more than once this weekend.”

The Lady Dawgs (10-2) only two losses were to Laredo United in the championship match and in pool play. They beat Smithville 21-25, 25-19, 25-8 in the semifinals and Wimberley 25-21, 21-25, 25-12 to start gold bracket play Aug. 15.

In pool play, Burnet defeated Johnson City 25-19, 25-9 and Caddo Mills 25-13, 25-14 but lost to Laredo United 17-25, 25-19, 10-25.

“This is a great tournament filled with really powerful teams like Wimberley and Canyon Lake,” Coles said, “so to be in the championship placing was a credit to the girls.”

Marble Falls at Tex-Fest Tournament

WIMBERLEY The Marble Falls High School volleyball team earned its first two wins of the 2015 season.

They were against Lampasas 25-16, 25-19 and Hondo 25-13, 25-14 on the second day of the Wimberley Tex-Fest Tournament on Aug. 15.

The Lady Mustangs (2-5) lost to Johnson City 18-25, 17-25; Cuero 19-25, 16-25; and Harper 21-25, 19-25.

New head coach Casey Schubert said she wants to see her players’ confidence rising.

“I told them, ‘Your hard work is going to pay off,’” she said. “‘You have to believe it to give yourselves a chance.’”

The Lady Mustangs welcome Liberty Hill at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 then play in the Bastrop Tournament on Aug. 20-22.

Llano at Tex-Fest Tournament

WIMBERLEY The Llano High School volleyball team posted a 2-4 record at the Tex-Fest Tournament on Aug. 14-15.

The Lady Jackets beat Hondo twice 25-15, 25-22 and 22-25, 25-15, 25-23 but lost to Wimberley 12-25, 10-25; Blanco 22-25, 18-25; Karnes City 26-24, 18-25, 18-28; and Johnson City 14-25, 18-25
