FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — With Tropical Storm Bill hitting the Texas coast June 16, weather officials believe the remnants could dump an additional 4-8 inches of rain across much of the Lone Star State including the Highland Lakes.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch through June 18 in anticipation of the wet weather. The rain comes on the heels of significant rain and flooding in some parts of Central Texas over Memorial Day weekend.

With the ground already saturated in some places, weather officials believe additional rain will run off into area creeks and rivers, leading to the possibility of flooding.

Drivers are reminded to be cautious at low-water crossing and always turn around instead of attempting to drive across flooded roadways and bridges.

The NWS predicts heavy rain and storms through June 18 before the chances begin tapering off for the weekend.

Many area churches have vacation Bible schools going on this week. People should call the church to verify if they are holding VBS on days with heavy rains and flooding.

First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls has a plan in anticipation of potential flooding. If flooding occurs, the church might cancel VBS for June 17. Updates will be available on KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune, KBEYFM.com and DailyTrib.com.
