Maria Rios deLara Lopez, 92, of Cedar Park died April 20, 2015
Maria Rios de Lara Lopez, 92, of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away April 20, 2015. A memorial service is 7:30 p.m. April 24 at Kingdom Hall, 13467 Vista Oaks Drive in Leander.
Maria or “Mia,” as she was affectionately called, was born June 23, 1922, in Tlacuilotepec, Oxaca, Mexico, to Marco Rios and Maria de Jesus.
Maria studied and worked as a teacher for grades 1-4 in her early years. After the passing of her first husband, Arturo deLara, Maria and their son, Enrique, left Mexico to find a new life in Texas. She worked in Wimberley at the Rocky River Ranch from 1952-1955. In 1955, she came to Burnet, Texas, to work for Pat and Tex Robertson at Camp Longhorn. She was invaluable in running the Robertson household and performing duties as needed for Camp Longhorn. Her greatest joy was in taking care of the Robertson children and grandchildren.
After being a part of the Camp Longhorn family for 52 years, Maria retired in 2007. She continued to bless the family and friends with her famous chocolate roll and other recipes made with her special ingredient of love. She and her second husband, Amalio Lopez, lived in Kingsland, Texas, until his death in 2006.
She then moved to Eagle Pass to live with her son, Enrique, and family. After Enrique’s death, Maria returned to the Austin area and was “adopted” by her church families.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Arturo deLara and Amalio Lopez; and son Enrique deLara. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Teresa deLara, and grandchildren, Enrique Jr., Elizabeth and Arturo, all of Eagle Pass; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Prior to her passing, Maria asked that no flowers or memorials be given. Instead, she asked that we all love one another and serve Jehovah God and Jesus Christ. She said, “God gave me an excellent life. My life has been beautiful.”
A special thanks to the brothers and sisters of Kingdom Hall for their dedicated service and love in their care of Maria.
ATTAWAYTOGO, Mia!
