FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — A major water leak early Jan. 25 means residents in the affected area must boil water until at least 5 p.m. Jan. 27.

Burnet police responded to a report of the leak in the area of North Water Street (U.S. 281) and Johnson Street. According to officials, officers found what they described as a “large geyser” of water coming from the broken line. They also reported at least a foot of standing water in some places.

City crews worked to repair the 16-inch line, but to do so, workers had to shut down a few smaller lines.

Crista Bromley of the city said the affected area includes residents bordered by West, Johnson and Hill streets as well as FM 963.

“The boil water notice is primarily because of (water) testing to make sure it’s safe,” she said. “We should get the results back by 5 p.m. (Jan.  27). If we don’t get them back by then, we’ll send out a notice letting people know.”
