BUCHANAN DAM — As with every new year, people are looking for a fresh, clean start.

To help, Linda Wallen is offering a program to get your home clean — naturally.

“Cleaning won’t ever be fun, but it can be more pleasant and healthier,” said Wallen, a trained aroma therapist who makes her own soaps, lotions and cleaning products.

The “Naturally Clean Home” program is 2:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Lakeshore Branch Library, 7346 Texas 261 in Buchanan Dam. The program is free, but reservations are required by calling (325) 379-1174.

Wallen will offer demonstrations, samples and a recipe book to get you started. She will show how to use items such as baking soda and vinegar, herbs and essential oils to replace many over-the-counter products. You could learn how to make anything from a natural air freshener to carpet cleaning powder.

“Most cleansers, if you go down the aisle, have synthetics and/or chemicals in them. Even something natural like ammonia can have really negative effects to the environment if you have breathing problems,” Wallen said. “Not everyone wants to make their own cleaning soap, but it can be done easily.”
