Adalene TomlinsonAdalene Olga Amanda (Tischler) Tomlinson, 76, of Llano, and formerly of Coleman and Priddy, passed away Jan. 6, 2015, after lengthy illness.

Adalene was born to Monroe W. and Annie (Rackrow) Tischler on March 31, 1938, in Hamilton, Texas. She was the eldest of their 10 children. She attended high school in the Midland-Odessa area and Winters. They were of the Lutheran faith.

On Sept. 13, 1958, Adalene married Elmer Lee Tomlinson in Mexico. They lived in Llano for more than 30 years and were the owners-operators of Tomlinson Boot Shop on East Main Street. Many a Llano cowboy and cowgirl bought their boots from Elmer and Adalene. They even sold boots to folks living abroad.

Adalene was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Lee Tomlinson in February 2002; parents, Monroe W. and Annie Tischler; brothers, Harvey, Homer, Edwin “Pip”, Kenneth and Calvin; as well as aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her sisters, Serena and husband Gene Maas of Ballinger, Nelda and husband Mike Briley of Winters, Eva Hollis of Winters and Josie and husband Ray Henry of Ballinger; sisters-in laws Patty Tischler of Winters and Wanda Flanagan, both of Brownwood; aunts Leona and Billie; and cousins. She is loved and will be missed by many, including nieces Barbara Weidebusch (who used to come visit her in Llano) and nephews, great-nieces great-nephews and other family members and friends.

Much to Adalene’s delight, she recently (the past two or three years) reconnected with high school friends Joe Loper and his sister, Billie Hallum, of Eastland. Traveling to see them was a highlight of her day.

In addition to being a most excellent seamstress and boot maker, Adalene was an extremely good cook. She was known throughout the family for her wonderful recipes. She loved traveling and seeing America. She loved her family, and we will miss her, but we are grateful for all the years God gave her to us.

A funeral service was Jan. 8 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300, with David Hankins, the minister of the Llano Church of Christ, officiating. Burial followed at Llano City Cemetery.
