MARBLE FALLS — More work remains to complete the U.S. 281 bridge project in Marble Falls, but the second bridge might have southbound traffic crossing it soon.

According to a Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson, the bridge could open to traffic as soon as Oct. 9.

“The final bridge striping will take place on Thursday, Oct. 9, and we plan to open the bridge to traffic later that afternoon,” said TxDOT public information officer Kelli Reyna.

Work on the overall $36.8 million project began in December 2010. The first bridge opened to traffic in December 2012. The old bridge was demolished in March 2013, and construction of the second new bridge structure began in April 2013.
