Marble Falls tennis loses to Cedar Park and Dripping Springs
MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School tennis team suffered back-to-back losses to Cedar Park, 7-10, on Sept. 24 and Dripping Springs, 6-10, on Sept. 23.
Marble Falls head coach Jeff Savage said the Mustangs played well despite the defeats.
Against Dripping Springs, Savage said his players hit deep returns and controlled the net in doubles. The Lady Mustangs doubles teams and the doubles teams of Jared Edwards and Wiley Baskin and Colby Orton and Kameron Wright all performed consistently.
“Our hand speed at the net has improved dramatically over the course of this season,” Savage said. “I think the Mustangs played as well as they have all season versus a really strong Dripping Springs team.”
The coach noted 10 matches went to third-set tiebreakers against Cedar Park.
“This match could have gone either way,” he said. “Mustangs played their hearts out and fought for every point. I could not be happier by the way they kept their composure after being down 2-5 after doubles finished.”
He was especially pleased with the mixed doubles team of Terrill Baskin and Josh Vasquez.
“Terrill’s deep ground strokes opened up Josh Vasquez’s quick hands at the net,” he said. “I’m really happy with the way mixed doubles have contributed this year.”
Afton Otwell has lost only one match in District 25-5A play in girls singles.
