Aaron Watson wrapping up Burnet’s Summer Concert Series

FROM STAFF REPORTS
BURNET — When it comes to his music, Texas singer-songwriter Aaron Watson says three things inspire him: family, fans and faith.
“They are what makes my music,” he said on his website, aaronwatson.com. “When I’m writing songs, that’s what’s on my mind. What else is there?”
Watson, who has recorded and released 11 albums during his 12-year musical career, described his songwriting process “with Jesus on one shoulder and the ghost of Waylon Jennings on the other.” And he’ll bring his talent and music to Burnet on Sept. 6 when he wraps up the Summer Concert Series presented by KBEY 103.9 FM Radio Picayune, the city of Burnet and Double Eagle Entertainment.
Watson will take the stage at Haley Nelson Park, located off Texas 29 West, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome.
The Abilene-based performer credits God with his talent but also draws inspiration from country music greats such as George Strait, Chris Ledoux, Willie Nelson and Jennings. He’s found a way to blend a new sound with Texas tradition to create a unique and very much Watson style.
Born in Amarillo, Watson was encouraged by his mother to sing as a youth, but it wasn’t until he was a student at Abilene Christian University when he found the guitar and discovered he had a talent for songwriting. The musician didn’t achieve instant success but worked his way down a steady path. Watson actually started selling his records out of a backpack.
“We did it the hard way,” he stated on his website. “We did it the old-school way.”
Those ways apparently are paying off as Watson has racked up more than 150,000 albums sold and seven No. 1 singles on the Texas Music Chart and had four albums debut on the Billboard charts.
As successful as he’s become, Watson looks for ways to give back. He wrote and recorded the song “Raise Your Bottle” for his dad, a Vietnam veteran, to draw awareness to the Boot Campaign. The campaign and foundation supports American service members upon their return home.
