THE WOODLANDS — Marble Falls Middle School golfer Macy Fox captured the South Texas PGA Junior Championship on Aug. 14 by winning the girls 10-12 division.
Fox shot a 75-69–144 for the victory. She recorded five birdies in the second round.
Fox said she had never played on The Woodlands Country Club course until this tournament. She said she didn’t do anything differently for the second round.
“I knew the course better,” she said. “I knew what the greens looked like.”
Fox’s 144 was the lowest score among the female division champions in the other age groups. She was the only STPGA Junior Champion to shoot a round in the 60s.
The tournament also allowed her to have a caddy, Bob Sudberry. She said one of the reasons she won was because of his expertise.
She has shot no higher than an 80 in her past eight rounds.
By winning the tournament, Fox qualifies as a member of the Texas Junior Cup team that will play the Northern Texas PGA tournament Oct. 25-26. Both squads have 12 members under age 12 who battle in Ryder Cup-style competition.
“I felt good,” she said of her victory. “I had to work to get into the Ryder Cup.”
